Under 7 Game 1

SWU U7 vs Commercial Purple, 1-1 Draw
Natasha Elliot – U7 Manager and super speedy match reporter! Other parents – we want photos – even from your camera phone!!

An awesome effort was put in by all players today. Very early in the first half after a well-placed pass from Lucas, newcomer to the game Frank scored our one and only goal for the game. Toby did a great job stopping Commercial from scoring in the first half. Sophie another new player had a great game, showing she will be a force to be reckoned with over the rest of the season. Our new hockey players Jessica, Sibley, Charlotte, Micah and Caleb all had a lot of fun.

After a short break and a well-deserved energy snack, the kids were all back on the field ready for their second half. Unfortunately Commercial got a sneaky goal early in the second half, but our team stayed strong and stopped Commercial from scoring any further goals.

A huge effort was given by all players today and they should be very proud of themselves.

Under 9 Game 1

SWU U9 Rockets vs Easts 1, 0-0 Draw
Match reporter needed! Team photographer needed!
The Under 9s made a great match of it against a much larger Easts team. The kids fought hard and held the score to a nil all draw.

Our young team is still building its team work, and as a result play tended to stay predominantly in the middle of the field.

Hopefully over coming weeks, we’ll be able to practice a bit more passing and spreading the play across the whole field.

A great effort from all the kids, and a special thanks to Donna our manager for looking after the team while Kate, our regular coach, was enduring Uni exams!

Under 11 Game 2

SWU U11 vs Bulimba, 0-3 Loss
Ross Hocking – Coach, Thanks for the piccies Kym – I have lens envy!

It wasn’t a good start to the match with the coach (me) turning up late and Sam Hocking also arriving as the game was about to start (he was with the coach).

Overall it was a good defence performance for the second game of the season for a team that is just getting to know each other and playing a side that was a lot older. Special mention should go to James Ward who had fantastic game in goals and frustrated the Bulimba attack. He was well supported by his younger brother Ben as well Ben Moss who for their first year in U/11 have picked up a level. We also had good drive through the centre by Caleb Simpson which led to creating some scoring opportunities for us. Good work from Mathew, Eddie and Samual Kenny also nullified the Bulimba attack.

We do have to look at our positional play as we did resemble a swarm of bees during the later part of the match. The exception was Sam Hocking who played up high close to their Goal keeper so close that he found out his name was Oliver who goes to Bulimba State school and is 9 (Note to coach be careful what you say a half time).

I was also good to see Caleb (2) get involved and work hard on getting the ball into space and also the effort Patrick put in tackling the opposition.

I am sure a win will not be far off with a bit more practice on our free hits and attacking corners needed.

And the coach turning up on time………………..

Under 13 Game 3

SWU U13s vs Bulimba 0-10 Loss
Dave Cox, Master hockey player and goal scorer this week too!

This was always going to be an extremely tough match against a side filled with representative players.

Initially our team appeared a little overwhelmed by the calibre of the opposition, and despite some fine saves from Tom and some resolute defending from Harry and the back three initially consisting of Chris, James C, and James W, the score line was 8 nil at the half time whistle. Mention must also be made of the midfield of Caleb, Matt, Ben and Dylan, who made some telling tackles and worked extremely hard.

The team was transformed in the second half after what must been an inspirational half time team talk from Tony. There was a far greater sense of urgency and commitment to the tackle, and our forwards started to see far more of the ball. Nick had some good runs and he was well supported by Gilbert and Michael.

Dylan was prominent in attack and defence, and his work rate epitomised our team’s vastly improved second half performance.

It appeared that the team had a lot more structure and contested the second half on a relatively equal basis despite letting in two goals. There were clear signs that our players are starting to gel as a side and congratulations to each and every player for their “never say die attitude”.
