Annual SWU Old Boys' Drinks

It's that time again - the first Saturday of December.
The SWU Old Boys get together on Saturday from noon until whenever.
Please come along and join in the (somewhat embellished) stories of current and historic SWU teams.
And around 4pm the Bar is filled with around 80 Mr and Mrs Claus for some sort of fundraiser pub crawl that happens each year - well worth a look.

Under 18 Indoor Team Challenge

Last weekend saw Seb Masters, Harry Meredith and Nick Meredith represent the South Brisbane Vipers at the Under 18 Team Challenge. Despite having and average age of 16 (and a 13 year old keeper) all of the boys did a fantastic job representing South West United and South Brisbane.

Whilst the boys did not make the finals, they learned an lot and will be back ready for more next year. Congratulations to Seb Masters for earning the "Player of the Match" award in the game against the eventual competition winners from Ipwich.

Round 3 Indoor Wrap Up

This week was a very busy week for a number of our players with the under 18 challenge held at Kedron State High School, as well as the normal round games being held at Mansfield.

First up the SWUHC Raiders produced another powerhouse performance to come away with a convincing win 7-2. Good efforts from all involved in this young and developing team.

Next up were the Thundersticks who despite missing regular goalkeeper Logan M put up a brave fight but were unable to clinch their first victory of the season. Thanks to Patrick for filling in and making.

Finally, the Hoof Hearted boys took to the field. This match was always going to be tough with 3 of the team playing games in the under 18 tournament on Friday, Saturday and earlier Sunday . In a fast and furious game the score was locked up at 2 all going in to half time. Unfortunately the heavy schedule took its toll and they guys were unable to hang in there, going down 4-2.

SWU Players Selected in Under 18 Indoor Team Challenge

Next weekend will see a number of SWUHC players representing South Brisbane in the Under 18 team challenge. This competition starts at 6.00pm Friday and the boys will play a number of games across the entire weekend against teams from across the state.

The action takes place at Kedron State High School, so if you have some time I am sure that the boys would appreciate your support.

Good luck to:

Seb Masters
Nick Meredith
Harry Meredith
James Reeve

Im sure that you will have a great tournament.

Round 2 Indoor wrap up

Week 2 and things are getting interesting.

In the under 13 division the SWUHC Raiders notched up their first win of the season with a resounding 11 - 0 win. All players got amongst the action with Thomas Masters top scoring for the match with 5 goals.

The Thundersticks made their second appearance and what a difference a week can make. After a quick start by the opposition they were able to pull back to 1 all at half time. It was an unlucky goal towards the end that saw them go down fighting 2-1. A much improved performance by all....

Finally Hoof Hearted took the field in their newly promoted role as A grade players......a fast and frantic game ensured with goals for both sides. Despite the est efforts of the team, they were unable to secure a win going down 5-4. However as a first up game in the highest division they certainly showed a lot of potential for the rest of the season.

Indoor News: SWU Hoof Hearted re-graded

After last weeks performance from Hoof Hearted, they have been promoted and will now line up in the Under 17 A Division.

Looks like it really will be game on for those guys!

Stay tuned for progress...

Round 1 Indoor Wrap Up

Indoor season has started and South West are out in force.

First up were the SWU Raiders playing in the under 13 division. For quite a few of these players this is a big jump as they are still eligible to play in the under 11 competition, but have decided to make the step up and see how they go.
In a tough and frantic match that saw some great hockey and lots of goals the Raiders were unable to come up with the victory, however the 7 to 6 scoreline shows that we can expect the wins to come soon for these guys.

Next up in the u/17 C division were the SWU  Thundersticks. This was the first time playing indoor for most of these kids. Again, they have stepped up and were not to be intimidated and put up a great fight, however despite their best efforts were unable to come away with a win.

Finally in the u/17 B division we saw Hoof Hearted show their stuff. With players from across a number of SWU outdoor teams, and limited indoor experience, this was going to be interesting. After a few nervous moments though, the boys found their stride and were able to secure an impressive 7- 0 win. An added bonus for this team is  a number of players are going through to the u/18 State Teams Challenge in a couple of weeks!

SWU Ready to Ramp up for Indoor

This year SWUHC will be entering Teams in the South Brisbane Indoor Hockey League.

Last year we had 1 under 11 team who were very successful and managed to win their age division.

This year we have 2x Under 17 Teams and 1x under 13 Team.

The action starts at FR Catterson Park on the 11th October.

Good luck to all those involved

SWU in Grand Final action

Congratulation to our Under 13 orange team, winning 3 - 0 in a great game this morning to win the BHA Under 13 Division 2 Premiership.

In another great achievement, Ethan Holland was named player of the match.

Our J team played a great game in their Grand Final against Easts but unfortunately the boys best wasn't enough to win the day going down 3 - 1.

Well done players, coaches and managers on a fantastic season.

J Division Finals

Congratulations to our J's team. This year they have made the finals series and have put themselves in a great position to go all the way.

Good Luck next weekend
